SSA #22 Management
The Andersonville Special Service Area (SSA #22) serves businesses fronting Clark Street and the adjacent side streets to the alleys from Ainslie Avenue on the south to Victoria Street on the north. Every commercial property within the SSA boundaries contributes to, and benefits from, the SSA. A nominal tax levy on each commercial property provides locally-managed funding for locally-important services. Each SSA in Chicago is led by a Commission that plans SSA programs and monitors expenditures. On a day-to-day basis, Chicago SSAs are managed by a Sole Service Provider. In Andersonville, the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce, with assistance from ADC, serves as the Sole Service Provider to administer the SSA-funded programs.
SSA Commissioners, together with the Sole Service Provider, regularly evaluate SSA programs to ensure that they meet area needs. With more than 70% of the budget directly programmed for services, the SSA primarily funds parking, safety, and cleaning/beautification services. Andersonville’s total SSA budget (roughly $200,000 in 2007) is based on a 0.45% EAV tax levy (a mid-range levy compared to other SSA’s Citywide).
Key elements of the Andersonville SSA work program include:
- Parking Management
- Landscape and Maintenance
- Marketing Initiatives
- Facade Improvements
- Tenant Retention/Attraction
- Safety Program
- District Planning
